A traditional Anglican parish

Our way of being Christian is called Anglicanism. Anglicanism is the historic expression of Christianity that emerged in England, where there has been a continuous Christian witness since at least A.D. 597.

We are a Biblical church, because we are careful to give Holy Scripture its rightful place as the ultimate rule of faith and practice. Reason and Tradition are of great value and are honored within our life together, but Scripture remains our highest authority.

We are Evangelical, because we believe in the necessity of conversion from unbelief to faith in the risen and living Jesus Christ, and in the call to trust Him personally for salvation.

We are Liturgical, in that the historic 1662 Book of Common Prayer provides the form and language of our worship, shaping our prayers, praises, and hearing of God’s Word.

We are Sacramental, because we revere the sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. We affirm that the sacraments are “sure witnesses, and effectual signs of grace and God’s good will towards us, by which He doth work invisibly in us, and doth not only quicken, but also strengthen and confirm our faith in Him.”

We are Musical, because we believe the depth and beauty of sacred music serves both the praise of God and the shaping of Christian faith. At Covenant Church, we give careful attention to the singing of hymns and anthems that are rich in doctrine and reverently offered, drawing especially from the tradition of English hymnody and choral music.

Lastly, we are Episcopal, because we recognize the need for faithful pastoral oversight and for the preservation of “the faith once delivered to the saints.” This ancient form of church government provides a godly means of shepherding Christ’s Church and maintaining continuity with the historic Christian faith.
